Summary
The symbolic message to our veterans is, to me, vastly more important than a potentially negative impact to our county's tax revenues. Given the fact that San Antonio is "Military City USA," and that so many wounded warriors at Brook Army Medical Center, the Center for the Intrepid, and the Returning Heroes Home Center call her home, I was surprised to hear of the reservations regarding a property tax exemption for our disabled veterans. In fact, other counties and cities around the state are being proactive in seeking and aiding their disabled veterans qualify. We must remember that these brave men and women proudly called "warriors-in-transition" are struggling to learn to walk with a new leg, to brush their teeth with a new arm, to say "I love you" after a traumatic brain injury. These brave men and women have made sacrifices many of us can not even fathom for the sake of their country; I would argue we are not giving our disabled vets anything they have not earned.
