Summary
During the trial in which he was accused of child molestation (one of the most difficult times of his life) he was considered by many to be a pedophile in disguise, in Tonight Show monologues he was often called a "freak" and newsreel after newsreel stressed the seriousness of this controversy. Even after a hard-won "Not Guilty" in June 2005 rescued him from jail, it did not rescue him from ridicule. There was no lack of discussion about the horrible results of [Michael Jackson]'s many facial surgeries (as if everyone didn't know), countless comics utilized him as the butt of several of their jokes, and the public (much of it) laughed along the whole way through. This was by-and-large the case during his final four years of life.
