'Soul of the City' Gala Celebrates Contributors to San Fernando Expansion

According to Father David Garcia, pastor of San Fernando Cathedral, this event held every other year honors individuals the church and the Foundation feel form part of the soul of San Antonio through their generous contributions and involvement. This year's honorees included Charlie Cheever, a retired CEO of Broadway Bank, Reuben Escobedo, a very prominent retired C.P.A., and area lawyer Bill Scanlan, Jr. All three, Garcia says, have been on the board for the church's restoration project while giving of themselves to many other City projects ranging from partnerships with KLRN to the Girl Scouts to the San Antonio Museum of Art.

"They've all done all these projects so they've didn't just help San Fernando, they helped everywhere," he said.
