Referred to as "rocketry" the class is the first of its kind in the District as part of a recently adopted SystemsGo aero-science curriculum, developed in Fredericksburg, Texas. SystemsGo, designed for high school juniors and seniors, advocates an innovative approach to learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by building sounding rockets. First-year students design and develop sounding rockets capable of lifting a one-pound payload to a one-mile altitude. School officials hope to eventually expand the program to a second-year level, where students develop a rocket capable of supersonic flight.
